Meeting Ziggy the Piggy

Ziggy the Piggy

This is Ziggy, he is a 9 week old miniature potbelly pig. He belongs to my neighbors and really good friends.

I think that he is jut the cutest little thing that I have seen in a good while. My husband and I meet him yesterday when we went to help out our friends.

They were kind enough to teach me about the proper care of a piggy like him. They were as kind to allow me to hold and love on him.

I mean seriously, how could anyone not want to hold and love on such a cute little animal? Well, I am not one of those reading this saying "Me". I see an animal I want to pet, hold and love on it. This is my first time meeting him.

Let's be honest here, I was raised on a farm and we had the normal farm animals: cattle, chickens, sheep, turkeys, Guinea fowl (or hens as many know them as), peacock and peahens. No pigs, no goats, or horses.

So to meet and hold an animal that I was not raised with on the farm is a treat to me. Ziggy is just on of those animals that you see, meet and then say "I want one.". Well, I do want one and in this fact I looked up online how to care for a miniature potbelly pig.

My friends warned me that it was nothing like taking care of pigs that are classified as livestock. They were right, but I did not look it up cause I believed that they were wrong it was for the fact that I wanted to know for myself. I believe to have an animal one should know how to properly care for it. So I made sure that I knew what it's diet is, bedding, watering, cooling needs were right down to the very last thing possible. And, no asking "Why the cooling?", to answer this it is simple. Pigs do not have sweat glands, so what you see as a dirty animal for rolling in the mud is not the case. It is to keep them cool and parasite free.

The thought that pigs are dirty is one misconception that I wish humans would let go of, pigs are far from dirty. They are one of the most cleanest animals on this great planet that we all share. In someways humans are far more dirty than most other animals alive.

Though after meeting him, there will be one day a blog about my personal miniature potbelly pig.

And, to all my followers out there, do not message me and telling me you have a miniature baby potbelly pig I can have. I would gladly take it, but I do not have anything ready for proper care.

Well, hoped you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed telling you about it. Please follow me here or on Facebook to see all my ventures that I have.

Until my next blog entry enjoy you animals. Hold and love on them for they would like that.
